Paklenica National Park

The Paklenica National Park (www.paklenica.hr) was declared a national park in 1949 due to its abundant forests and exceptional landscape forms.

A natural paradise

The canyons of Velika and Mala Paklenica, numerous summits, prominent cliffs, caves and other formations of extreme beauty are some of the basic phenomena of this Park and are the main reason why most visitors come. In the Manita peć Cave, the stalagmites and stalactites are up to 20 m high.

Attractions for mountain climbers and free climbers

When spring arrives, mountain climbers, sports climbers and free climbers come to Paklenica. Each year around 1 May, an international competition in free climbing is held – the “Big Wall Speed Climbing” www.paklenica.hr. The competition is held on the cliffs of the Anića kuk peak, the most famous climbing spot in Croatia.

Endemic species

Paklenica also has distinctive fauna with a very important griffon vulture colony. Degenia velebitica is the most famous endemic plant species. Paklenica formed the backdrop for several films. (www.karl-may.de and www.aufwinnetousspuren.at)
